Call for SC13 Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions (BOFs)

Call for SC13 Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions (BOFs)

November 17-22, 2013, Colorado Convention Center, Denver, Colorado, USA
http://sc13.supercomputing.org

------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------

Don't just observe, engage!  SC Birds of a Feather (BOF) sessions provide a
highly interactive, non-commercial venue for building community around topics
of mutual interest.

What is a BOF?
--------------
BOFs provide a forum for audience-driven discussion, developing grass-roots
participation, and professional networking.  SC13 will continue the
SC BOF tradition with a full slate of exciting, informal sessions focused
around a variety of topics, including:

* Applications, languages, and programming environments
* Computing, storage, networking, and analysis techniques
* Systems administration and data center operations
* Emerging technologies and architectures for HPC
* Government and group initiatives

SC BOFs are *non-commercial* with a focus on community building through
highly-interactive discussion of a wide variety of topics.  There are a few
things for which SC BOFs are not the appropriate venue:

* vendors wishing to advertise their latest product release or feature
  (instead, consider the SC Exhibitor Forum);
* a session consisting solely or mainly of presentations and discussion between
  a small group of experts (instead, submit a proposal for an SC Panel);
* a project team meeting that is not focused on building community (e.g., by
  not allowing non-project team members in the discussion).

BOFs sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of the
conference, at 12:15-1:15pm (T, W, Th) and 5:30-7:00pm (T and W only).  These
sessions are open to all conference attendees, including exhibitors and
exhibits-only badge holders.

BOF Submissions
---------------
*** New for SC13 ***
A proposal must be submitted for *all* BOFs to be held at SC13.  In contrast to
previous years, all SC13 BOF proposals will be peer reviewed.  Each proposal
will receive at least three reviews.

Also new this year: all SC13 BOFs will be required to produce a written
artifact describing an outcome of the BOF, such as a report summarizing
the discussion or the results of an attendee survey.  This written artifact
will be made available to the HPC community after the conference.

For details about what must be included in a BOF proposal, see the sample
submission form at the SC13 submission site (URL below).
