CALL FOR PAPERS
Sustainable Computing: Informatics and Systems (SUSCOM)
Special Issue on Sustainable Computing for Ultrascale Computing
Scope: The growth of infrastructures towards exascale and beyond is on the way. Today only the most energy-efficient solutions will make it a reality, in order to keep an upper limit of energy consumption at a reasonable level (somewhere around 20 MW for the exascale, as requested by the DoE). Besides environmental concerns, the increasing costs for electricity advocate also for finding innovative and disruptive solutions to power these infrastructures.
In this special issue, we seek original work focused on addressing new research and development challenges, developing new techniques and advanced information technology solutions in sustainable computing in the age of ultrascale (exascale and beyond), from infrastructure and machine architectures, middleware, applications, runtime and programming point of view.
Specific topics include, but not limited to, the following:
Energy-aware algorithms and applications
Energy-aware exascale applications and kernels
Energy-efficient models of large scale applications
Algorithms for reduced power, energy and heat
Energy, performance, quality of service and other resource tradeoffs
Energy-aware language abstractions, programming systems
Code profiling for energy efficiency
Programming models extensions for energy efficiency
Domain Specific Language for energy efficiency
Energy-aware runtime and middleware
Adapted runtime systems
Power-aware middleware for job submission and control
Energy-efficient scheduling and resource allocation
Energy-efficient computation, communication, I/O
Energy-efficient architectures
Energy saving architectures
Energy monitoring and analysis at ultrascale level
Power-aware architectures for exascale
Disruptive future energy-efficient architectures
System-level optimization, cross-layer coordination
Submission Details:
General information for submitting papers to SUSCOM can be found at http://www.journals.elsevier. com/sustainable-computing/ (please note the “Guide for Authors” link). Submissions to this Special Issue (SI) should be made using Elsevier’s editorial system at the journal website (http://www.journals.elsevier. com/sustainable-computing/, under the “Submit Your Paper” link). Please make sure to select the “SI: Ultrascale Computing” option for the type of the paper during the submission process. All submissions must be original and may not be under review by another publication. A submission based on one or more papers that appeared elsewhere has to comprise major value-added extensions over what appeared previously (at least 30% new material). Authors are requested to attach to the submitted paper their relevant, previously published articles and a summary document explaining the enhancements made in the journal version. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed using the normal standards of SUSCOM. By submitting a paper to this issue, the authors agree to referee one paper (if asked) within the time frame of the SI.
Important Dates:
Manuscript due date: (extended) July 22, 2016
First decision notification: September 30, 2016
Tentative publication schedule: Mid- 2017
