Call for papers
---------------

The First Workshop on Novel Exascale Systems (NovExS)

To be held in conjunction with the 12th International Conference on High-Performance and Embedded Architectures and Compilers (HiPEAC), Stockholm, Sweden, January 24, 2017.

Workshop website: https://www.hipeac.net/events/activities/7424/novexs/

Deadline extended to November 27th 2016 (AOE).

Objective
---------

Exascale computing remains a grand challenge. While traditional computer systems continue to make great advances, it is argued that a paradigm shift in high performance computing is required to reach exascale. The objective of NovExS is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to discuss novel ways of achieving exascale.

Scope of the workshop
---------------------

The scope of the workshop is both hardware and software aspects of exascale systems with a focus on novel ways of building systems. Contributions with radically new ideas with high potential but with less rigorous experimentation are welcome.

The list of interests includes, but is not limited to, the following topics. All in the context of exascale systems:
• Architecture of multi-core processors, GPUs, accelerators, heterogeneous systems, memory systems, reconfigurable hardware, interconnects and on-chip networks
• Parallel programming models, languages, environments
• Compiler optimizations and techniques
• Hardware/software design trade-offs in exascale systems
• Operating system, middleware, and run-time system support
• Correctness and performance analysis

Submission of papers
--------------------

Participants willing to give a 20 minutes presentation are asked to send an electronic version of a paper presenting original work that does not exceed six pages using the ACM proceedings format, http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates, to https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=novexs17. All submitted papers undergo peer review.

Proceedings
-----------

Workshop proceedings with the camera-ready versions of accepted papers will be available at the workshop. Because the proceedings have a small and limited distribution, contributions will not disqualify subsequent publications in conferences or journals.

Summary of important dates

===============================================================================

                                CALL FOR PAPERS

===============================================================================
                             Symposium information
===============================================================================
Reconfigurable computing technologies offer the promise of substantial perfor-
mance gains over traditional architectures via customizing, even at runtime,
the topology of the underlying architecture to match the specific needs of a
given application. Contemporary adaptive systems allow for the definition of
architectures with functional and storage units that match in function, bit-
width and control structures the specific needs of a given computation. The
flexibility enabled by reconfiguration is also seen as a basic technique for
overcoming transient faults in emerging device structures.

ARC aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners of reconfigurable
computing with an emphasis on practical applications of this promising techno-
logy. ARC 2017 will have a series of international invited speakers that will
express their view on the future of reconfigurable technology.

The ARC 2017 proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag as a Lecture
Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series volume and will also be available
through the Springer Link on-line service (http://www.springer.com/lncs).

Selected papers will be invited to be submitted for consideration in the spe-
cial issue "Recent Progress in Applied Reconfigurable Computing" of Elsevier
Journal of Microprocessors and Microsystems (MICPRO).

===============================================================================
                            Submission Information
===============================================================================
Authors are invited to submit original contributions in English including, but
not limited to, the areas of interest mentioned below. Submission must be up-
loaded to the ARC website and identify the format of the contribution as either

- Long Papers:  (12 pages maximum) should include mainly accomplished results
                (oral presentation).

PDCO 2017, Orlando USA, is the result of the merge of the Parallel Computing and Optimization (PCO) and the Nature Inspired Distributed Computing (NIDISC) workshops that have been held in conjunction with the IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium for the past years.

Scope:
======
The IEEE Workshop on Parallel / Distributed Computing and Optimization aims at providing a forum for scientific researchers and engineers on recent advances in the field of parallel or distributed computing for difficult optimization problems, ranging from theoretical to applied problems.
The latter include 0-1 multidimensional knapsack problems and cutting stock problems, large scale linear programming problems, nonlinear optimization problems and global optimization problems. Emphasis will be placed on new techniques for solving these difficult problems, like cooperative methods for integer programming problems, nature-inspired techniques and hybrid methods. Aspects related to Combinatorial Scientific Computing (CSC) will also be treated. We also solicit submissions of original manuscripts on sparse matrix computations and related topics (including graph algorithms); and related methods and tools for their efficiency on different parallel systems. The use of new approaches in parallel and distributed computing like GPU, MIC, cloud computing, volunteer computing will be considered. Applications combining traditional parallel and distributed computing and optimization techniques as well as theoretical issues (convergence, complexity, etc.) are welcome. Application domains of interest include (but are not limited to) cloud computing, planning, logistics, manufacturing, finance, telecommunications and computational biology.
